December 13, 2014-The Emporia State men were held to .319 shooting from the field and just two of 17 from behind the three-point arc in a 71-51 loss at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the game and led 20-19 with 7:38 left in the first half. The Bearcats ended the half on a 14-4 run to take a 33-24 lead into the break. Emporia State actually outshot Southwest Baptist in the opening 20 minutes going nine of 20 from the field while SBU was nine of 25. The Bearcats hit four three pointers and outscored the Hornets 11-5 in the opening half.
Southwest Baptist scored the first six points of the second half and the lead would not drop below 11 the rest of the night.
Jevon Taylor had 14 points to lead the Hornets in scoring before fouling out. He was joined in double figures by Josh Pedersen with 11 points. Tyler Jordan had a career high 11 rebounds to go with nine points. The Hornets again played without leading scorer Terrence Moore who missed his second straight game with a shoulder injury.
Emporia State is back in action on Tuesday, December 16 when they take on McPherson College. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m. The game time has been moved up from the original schedule.
