December 31, 2014-The Emporia State men matched their season high with 13 made three-pointers in an 85-54 win over Sterling on New Year's Eve in White Auditorium.
The two teams traded buckets early before the Hornets used an 8-0 run to take a 12-5 lead with 15:03 left in the first half. They ended the half on a 13-2 run to take a 46-17 lead into the break.
A 10-2 run to start the second half gave Emporia State a 56-19 lead coming out of the first media time out with 14:46 left. A sam Morgan three-pointer gave the Hornets their biggest lead of the night at 82-37 with 5:13 left before settling in for the 85-54 victory.
Jevon Taylor was six of eight from behind the three-point arc for a game high 18 points. He was joined in double figures by Tyler Jordan with 15 points and Jay Temaat with 13 points as 11 Hornets scored in the game. Jordan had a game high eight rebounds while Micah Swank dished six assists.
The Hornets will resume MIAA action on Saturday, January 3 against Lincoln. Tip-off from Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium is set for 3:30 p.m.
