December 16, 2014-Emporia State got scoring from 12 players and assists from nine in an 87-61 win over McPherson College on Tuesday night in White Auditorium.
For the second straight game the Hornets jumped out to an 11-2 lead as Micah Swank hit three treys in the first 2:06 of the game. The Bulldogs would close to 13-10 with 14:50 left when Jevon Taylor hit a three-pointer to spark an 11-3 run. Taylor hit three trifectas in 1:50 during the run as Emporia State took a 24-13 lead with 11:45 left in the half. The lead would grow to 21 in the first half before Kyle Latin hit a three at the buzzer for McPherson to cut the halftime lead to 45-32. The lead stayed between 12 and 21 points throughout the second half as all 13 Hornets were able to play at least five minutes.
Swank and Taylor each scored 17 points and were joined in dobule figures by Josh Pedersen with 12 points. Pedersen led the Hornets with seven rebounds while Swank had a team high four assists.
Emporia State returns to MIAA play on Saturday when they travel to Missouri Southern. Tip-off from the Leggett & Platt Center in Joplin, Mo. is set for 2:00 p.m.
