December 16, 2014-The top ranked Emporia State Lady Hornets hit a season high 12 three-pointers in an 85-42 win at Southern Arkansas on Wednesday night.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 9-0 lead on a pair of three-pointers from Addie Lackey and one from Kelsey Barnwell. The Muleriders cut the lead to 9-4 with 16:35 left when Emporia State went on a 16-2 run to take control. The Lady Hornets hit four more three-pointers during the run - one by Kelly Moten, another one from Lackey and two more from Barnwell as they took a 25-6 lead with 12:04 left in the half. Emporia State led by as many as 29 with 3:37 left in the half, but Southern Arkansas ended the half on a 9-1 run as the teams hit the break with the Lady Hornets leading 41-20.
A 7-0 run by the Muleriders cut the lead to 16 with 14:32 left only to see the Lady Hornets go on a 16-2 run and take a 65-35 lead with 8:11 left. Emporia State held Southern Arkansas without a field goal over the final 5:46 to post the 43 point win.
Kelly Moten led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 14 points. Lackey added 13 points, Barnwell 12 and Jacee Kramer 11 as nine Lady Hornets scored at least five points. Amber Vandiver had a game high 12 rebounds and five points while Merissa Quick added seven points and nine rebounds.
The #1 Lady Hornets will stay on the road for a Top 25 showdown on Saturday at #22 Missouri Southern. Tip-off from the Leggett & Platt Center in Joplin, Mo. is set for 12 noon.
NOTES:
Emporia State's 12 made three-pointers are the most by the Lady Hornets since they hit 13 against Central Oklahoma on Jan. 27, 2013.
