November 25, 2014-Emporia State hit eight of ten free throws in the final 1:25 to pull out a 66-61 win over Northwestern Missouri State on Tuesday afternoon in Alva, Okla.
The Hornets used an 18-4 run to take a 37-25 lead with 1:03 left in the first half. Emporia State hit eight of ten three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes as they took a 37-26 lead to the lockerrooms.
Emporia State took their biggest lead of the night on a McWisdom Badejo free throw to make it 54-41with 10:16 left. The Rangers then went on a 15-1 run to take a 56-55 lead with 5:01 left. Jay Temaat answered for the Hornets with a three-pointer at the 4:07 mark to put Emporia State up 58-56. Laakeem Henderson gave NWOSU a 59-58 lead with 2:37 remaining. Terrence Sardin tied it with a free throw with 1:25 left and Temaat gave Emporia State the lead with a pair of free thows with 46 seconds remaining. Terrence Moore then hit five of six free throws in the final 27 seconds to ice the win.
Moore led Emporia State with 20 points and was joined in double figures by Temaat with 13 and Sardin with a career high ten points.Sardin and Micah Swank each pulled down six rebounds to lead the Hornets.
Emporia State will travel to Canyon, Texas after Thanksgiving for the Pak-A-Sak Classic hosted by West Texas A&M. The Hornets open the tournament on Friday against Eastern New Mexico.
