EMPORIA STATE MEN WORK FOR 74-63 WIN OVER EASTERN NEW MEXICO

Hornets hold Greyhounds 25 points below average

November 28, 2014-Emporia State held Eastern New Mexico to 25 points below their season average in a 74-63 win in the first game of the West Texas A&M Pak-A-Sak Classic in Canyon, Texas. Jay Temaat led the Hornet offense with a career high 21 points.

The Hornets scored their first six points of the game from the free throw line as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead and never trailed in the game.  The lead would reach 14 points on two occassions in the opening frame before the Hornets settled into a 41-30 lead at the break.

Emporia State would push the lead to 20 points with 9:46 left on a Perryonte Smith three-pointer to cap a 10-0 run. Eastern New Mexico would not get closer than nine points the rest of the night. The Hornets went the final 3:02 without a field goal but would hit six of eight in the final minute to preserve the win.

Temaat was joined in double figures by Smith and Terrence Moore with 12 points each and Tyler Jordan iwth ten points.  Moore had eight rebounds and Josh Pedersen had four assists to lead the Hornets.

Emporia State is back in action on Saturday night against the hosts West Texas A&M.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.
