November 18, 2014-Emporia State had 22 turnovers that led to 23 Newman points in an 86-80 loss to the Jets in Wichita on Tuesday.
Newman jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never trailed in the contest. Emporia State fell behind by as many as 13 points in the second half before making several comeback attempts late. Terrence Moore scored four straight points to pull the Hornets within 79-74 with 1:13 remaining but Newman hit five of seven free throws in the final 1:05 to seal the win.
Josh Pedersen had career highs of 15 points and six rebounds to lead four Hornets in double figures. Moore also had 15 points while Jevon Taylor had 14 points and Perryonte Smith added ten off the bench.
The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, Novmber 25 when the travel to Northwestern Oklahoma State. Tip-off from Alva, Okla. is set for 3:00 p.m. in the pre-Thanksgiving contest.
