November 15, 2014-The #7 Lady Hornets closed the first half on a 14-2 run to erase a five point deficit on the way to a 62-51 win over host Midwestern State in the final game of the Ashbrook Classic in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday.
The two teams were close through the opening 12 minutes with the Mustangs holding a 15-14 lead at the second media timeout. Midwestern State would take their largest lead of the night at 21-14 out of the time out thanks to a 6-0 run capped by a Janae McJunkins three-pointer with 7:14 left in the half.
Trailing by five at 24-19, Jacee Kramer started the decisive run with a three pointer at the 3:51 mark. Merissa Quick followed with an old fashioned three-point play to give Emporia State the lead for good with 3:04 left in the half. The Lady Hornets would take a 33-26 lead into the locker rooms and the run would grow to 17-2 thanks to an Addie Lackey three pointer to start the second half. Emporia State would stretch the lead to 16 points on five occassions in the second half before settling for the 11 point win.
Lackey and Amber Vandiver led the Lady Hornets with 11 points each while Quick added seven points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Lady Hornets are off for a week until they play host to Southwestern College on Saturday, November 22. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 7:00 p.m.
