EMPORIA STATE SOCCER HEADS TO OKLAHOMA FOR WEEKEND

Hornets with MIAA Tourney rematch with RiverHawks, then take on Bronchos

HORNETS ON RED DIRT
The Emporia State soccer team travels to Oklahoma this weekend for a pair of MIAA matches. The Hornets play Northeastern State in Tahlequah on Friday night in a rematch of last year's MIAA Tournament quarterfinal before heading to Edmond on Sunday to take on Central Oklahoma.

LAST TIME OUT
In a match that saw a total of 33 fouls, eight yellow cards and a red card, Emporia State and Lindenwood battled to a 1-1 tie at the EHS Pitch on Sunday.
Lindenwood scored the first goal of the match by Miranda Huebner in the 23rd minute. Grace Linton tied the game up in the 66th minute for the Hornets with the assist coming from Ally Taylor.
At the end of regulation the Hornets had a chance to take the lead on a free kick due to a yellow card on Danielle Torry of Lindenwood. At the end of the second overtime Lindenwood had their chance at a victory due to a yellow card called on Grace Linton that led to a free kick with 10.5 seconds left in the game.
The match had a total of 33 fouls called with 19 on the Lions and 14 on the Hornets. There were eight yellow cards with four on each team and one red card on Emporia State. There was plenty of action in the match with the Lions taking 23 shots, 11 on goal while the Hornets had 15 shots with four on goal. Yaderia Rivera had a total of 10 saves in the match for Emporia State.

THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 19-31-13 in his fourth year at Emporia State after a break through year in 2013 in which he led the Hornets to just the second winning record in the 13 year history of the program. He is 6-5-2 over his last 13 matches dating back to last year. He is 1-3-0 against Northeastern State and 0-1-1 against Central Oklahoma.
Chase Wooten is 51-22-9 in his fifth season as head coach at Northeastern State and 94-82-16 in his 11th year overall. He is 3-1-0 against Emporia State.
Mike Cook is 245-87-21 in his 17th season as head coach at Central Oklahoma and 333-109-22 in his 21st season overall. He is 2-0-1 against the Hornets.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State is 3-2-3 on the season with both losses coming against teams ranked in the Top 20 at the time. They are 0-1-3 in the MIAA. The Hornets have had nine different players score a goal while the ninth person didn't score a goal until the 19th game last season. Grace Linton has four goals for the Hornets while Jordan Foutch has two goals and an assist on the season. Yadira Rivera has a 1.27 goals against average with two shutouts this season. She hold the Emporia State career record with 11 shutouts in her first two years.

SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS
Northeastern State is 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA, coming off a pair of shutout victories over Harding (2-0) and Missouri Western (1-0). Melissa Giles leads the RiverHawks in scoring with four goals nad an assist. Jordan Woodruff has a 0.98 goals against average and three shutouts this season.

LAST TIME AGAINST NORTHEASTERN STATE
The seventh seeded Emporia State soccer team went on the road and defeated second seed Northeastern State in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament in Tahlequah, Okla. It was the first postseason win in school history.
The Hornets got on the board 20:18 into the match on a goal from Jordan Foutch. She collected a pass from McKenzie Koch inside the box on the right side and put the ball inside the far post for her fourth goal of the year.
Mallory Walden made it 2-0 Emporia State with 1:35 left in the half when she headed in a free kick from midfield by Shannon Thomas.
The RiverHawks came out firing in the second half with three corners and five shots in the first 15 minutes. The Hornets finally got an opportunity when Koch scored her fifth goal of the season in the box off a corner from Tommi Bouknight at the 60:18 mark for a 3-0 lead.
Emporia State's defense held firm in the second half despite getting outshot 17-3 in the period to record the tenth shutout of the season. Yadira Rivera had seven saves in the match to notch her ninth individual shutout of the year.

SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
Central Oklahoma is 6-2-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in the MIAA. Ten players have scored at least one goal for UCO led by Gabi Bochus with four scores. The Bronchos have shutouts in five of their six wins with Brandi Bartley and Elle Stover splitting time in goal. Both have two shutouts and they have combined for another one.

LAST TIME AGAINST CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
Emporia State earned a winning regular season and the #7 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament by playing Central Oklahoma to a scoreless double overtime tie.
The Hornets were outshot 17-7 by the Bronchos, but freshman goal keeper Yadira Rivera made four saves to earn her eighth shutout of the season and the team's ninth.

SERIES HISTORIES
This will be the fourth meeting between Emporia State and Northeastern State. The RiverHawks won the first three matches and lead 3-1 overall.
This will be the fifth meeting between Emporia State and Central Oklahoma with the Lions leading 3-0-1.

UP NEXT
The Hornets continue their road trip next weekend playing at Northwest Missouri on Friday and Missouri Western on Sunday. Kick-off against the Bearcats in Maryville, Mo. is set for 3:00 p.m. with a 12 noon kick-off on Sunday against the Griffons in St. Joseph, Mo.
