BACK HOME AGAINThe Hornets return to the EHS Pitch for a pair of matches over Homecoming Weekend at Emporia State. The Hornets play Southwest Baptist on Friday night and Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUTEmporia State saw it's four match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss at Missouri Western. It was the first loss to an unranked team this year for the Hornets.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half with Yadira Rivera recording three saves in the opening 45 minutes to run her scoreless streak to over 400 minutes. Missouri Western took the lead three minutes into the second half on a goal from Tara Russell at the 47:52 mark.
Emporia State had five corner kicks to just two for the Griffons but were outshot 18-3 in the match. Rivera ended with six saves.
THE COACHESBryan Sailer is 21-32-14 in his fourth year at Emporia State after a break through year in 2013 in which he led the Hornets to just the second winning record in the 13 year history of the program. He is 9-6-5 over his last 20 matches dating back to last year. He is 2-1-1 against Southwest Baptist and 1-1-1 against Missouri Southern.
Rob Podeyn is 47-47-13 in his sixth season as head coach at Southwest Baptist. He is 4-3-1 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATSSouthwest Baptist is 9-3-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the MIAA. They have gone 2-2 in their last four matches after starting the season 7-1. They have only played one overtime match this season, falling 2-1 in the 98th minute at Quincy. Karla Jamison has an MIAA high eight goals on the year while Elin Hammar leads the MIAA with seven assists. Cheyenne Forshey is 9-3-0 in goal with a 1.12 goals against average.
LAST TIME AGAINST SOUTHWEST BAPTISTA stellar Emporia State season was concluded with a 2-1 loss to Southwest Baptist in the semifinals of the MIAA postseason tournament.
The Bearcats got two first half goals from Karla Jamison, her ninth and tenth goals of the season.
Emporia State answered with Emily Haselwood's first goal of the season 13 minutes into the second half.
The Hornets took seven shots in the second half and had two more corners than Baptist in the final 45 minutes, but were unable to score a game-tying goal.
The Bearcats outshot the Hornets 27-11 for the match and keeper Yadira Rivera made nine saves.
SCOUTING THE LIONSMissouri Southern is 3-7-2 on the season and 1-6-1 in the MIAA. Casey Vitale has five goals to lead the Lion offense while Hannah Bomar has three goals and three assists. Beth Hammons is 3-6-1 in ten matches between the pipes with a 1.65 goals against average.
LAST TIME AGAINST MISSOURI SOUTHERNEmporia State soccer knocked off Missouri Southern 6-1 on Senior Day at the EHS Pitch. Â It's the highest goal total for the Hornets since a 6-4 victory against Washburn on September 17, 2003.
McKenzie Koch opened the scoring with a goal from 15 yards out just over 10 minutes into the match. Shannon Thomas then scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. The first goal came off an assist from Bridget Wages, the second off a deflection. Wages beat the Missouri Southern keeper at the 42:13 mark to close out the first half scoring.
Yadira Rivera shutout the Lions with one save in her 45 minutes of play. Senior Melanie Nuessen played the second half in goal for the Hornets.
Jordan Foutch and Wages added second half goals for Emporia State. The Hornets took 10 shots on goal in the match while the Lions had just three.Â
