January 4, 2013-The #3 Emporia State Lady Hornets held Lincoln to just 13 points in the first half on the way to a 74-49 win over the Blue Tigers in Jefferson City, Mo.
The teams were tied at 11 with 10:19 left in the first half when Emporia State went on a 16-0 run to take control. The Lady Hornets would not allow a field goal in the final 13:27 of the opening period as they took a 36-15 lead into the locker room. The 15 points were the fewest allowed in a first half by Emporia State since giving up just 13 points against Ft. Hays State on Feb. 26, 2011.
The Lady Hornets extended the drought without a Blue Tiger field goal for the first 1:36 of the second half as they took a 40-15 lead to start the second period. Emporia State would push the lead to 33 points with 8:44 left. They outscored Lincoln 50-17 over a 20:57 period that spanned halftime.
Rheanna Egli scored 14 points to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures. She was joined by Kionna Kellogg with 11 points and Laura Patrick and Haley Parker with ten each. Desiree Wylie had 13 rebounds as Emporia State outrebounded Lincoln 52-29.
Emporia State is back in action on Monday night. They will make their first trip to St. Charles, Mo. to play Lindenwood. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Hyland Arena.
