Hornets shut out Newman for second straight win

September 25, 2013-Emporia State defeated Newman 2-0 on Wednesday night to post back to back shut out wins for the first time since 2004.  With the win the Hornets matched their win total from last year.

Tommi Bouknight got the Hornets on the board early with a goal from about 20 yards out on the right side in the 16th minute of play.  McKenzie Koch made it 2-0 twenty minutes later when she scored from the left side at about 20 yards.

Emporia State dominated time of possession and out shot the Jets 29-8 on the night with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.  The Hornets also had eight corner kicks to one for Newman.

With the win Emporia State improves to 4-3 on the season, the first time they have been above .500 after seven games since starting the 2005 season 4-1-2.  The Hornets continue their home stand with a match against Southwest Baptist on Friday night.  Kick-off from the EHS Pitch is set for 7 p.m.

NOTES
The last time Emporia State shut out two straight opponents was on Sept. 11-12, 2004 when they defeated South Dakota 2-0 and Missouri Southern 1-0 in double overtime.
It is the first time Emporia State has won two straight matches since opening the 2008 season with wins over Angelo State and East Central (Okla.) on August 29 and 31.
Bryan Sailer moved into second in wins at Emporia State with 11 victories.
