February 27, 2013-The Emporia State Lady Hornets snapped a two game losing streak with a 61-48 win over #5 Washburn on Wednesday night in White Auditorium.  The Lady Hornets are 22-9 all-time against nationally ranked teams in White including a 9-4 record against top ten teams.

The teams traded the lead through the first 12 minutes before Washburn went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-17 lead with 5:43 left in the half.  Emporia State then closed the half on an 8-2 run to close within a point at 26-25 going to the locker room.

The Lady Hornets opened the second half half on an 11-2 run to take a 36-28 lead with 15:37 left on Rheanna Egli's three-pointer.  The Lady Hornets pushed the lead to 21 points at 59-38 with 5:14 remaining.  Merissa Quick then hit two free throws with 2:34 left to give the Lady Hornets a 61-43 lead and make Emporia State the first team to score more than 60 on the Washburn since the Lady Hornets scored 68 on Jan. 2 in Topeka.  The Lady Blues would score the final five points to make the final score 61-48.

Laura Patrick had 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals for Emporia State while Merissa Quick scored 11 points with a career high 20 rebounds to go with six blocked shots.  Jocelyn Cummings added 11 points for the Lady Hornets.

Emporia State will close the regular season March 2 at Pittsburg State.  With a Lady Hornet win and a loss by Truman, Emporia State would earn a bye to Kansas City for the MIAA Tournament.  With a loss the Lady Hornets will host a first round game on March 5.  Tip-off from Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan. is set for 1:30 p.m.

NOTES:
Quick's 20 rebounds are the most by a Lady Hornet since Michelle Stueve pulled 21 against Shaw on Nov. 29, 2005.
