February 20, 2013-Chris Sights had a career high 29 points with 19 in the second half as Emporia State defeated Pittsburg State 88-82 in White Auditorium on Wednesday night. He led four players in double figures for the Hornets.
Sights started the game converting a four-point play and the Hornets would lead 14-7 with 16:10 left in the first half. The Gorillas came back with a 15-2 run to go ahead 22-16 with 11:23 left in the half. They would push their lead to nine before Emporia State ended the half on a 8-2 run to close within 39-36 at the half.
Kaleb Wright and Sights hit jumpers to start the second half and give the Hornets a 40-39 lead 53 seconds into the second half. Sights converted his second four point play of the night with 16:06 left to give the Hornets a 48-43 lead. The Gorillas then went on a 7-0 lead to retake the lead at 50-48 with 14:24 remaining.
Pitt State led 54-52 with 12:36 left when Emporia State went on an 11-0 run capped by a Terrence Moore break away dunk to take a 63-54 lead with 10:16 left. The Gorillas kept coming back and pulled to within 68-67 on a three-pointer by Kaleb Porter with 6:11 remaining. Paul Bunch answered with a dunk to ignite an 11-0 run as the Hornets pushed their lead to ten at 79-69 with 4:11 left. Emporia State then hit five of eight free throws in the final two minutes to secure the win.
Sights hit 11 of 15 shots form the field and four of five from behind the three point line for his 29 points. He was joined in double figures by Wright with 13 points, Gavin Brown with 12 and Paul Bunch with 11 points. Bunch had a game high eight rebounds and six blocked shots for the Hornets.
Emporia State will continue their home stand on Saturday against Northeastern State. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Annual Hornet Basketball Alumni Game will be held earlier in the day starting at 1 p.m. in White Auditorium.
