December 18, 2013-The Emporia State men used a 14-2 run to turn a two point second half deficit into a ten point lead on the way to a 75-67 win over Southwest Baptist on Wednesday in White Auditorium. 

Both teams were hot in the early going with the score tied at 13 less than four minutes into the contest.  The Hornets then went on a 9-2 run to take a 22-15 lead with 14:34 left in the half.  The Bearcats retook the lead at 29-28 with 7:08 left before Emporia State closed the half on a 14-5 run.  Micah Swank scored 16 first half points for the Hornets as they led 42-34 at the break.

SBU would take a 51-50 lead with 13:55 left on a three-pointer by Rasha Brown-Peterson.  The Bearcats led 55-53 with 11:20 remaining when a Jevon Taylor three-pointer ignited a 14-2 Hornet run to take a 67-57 lead with 5:47 left.  Baptist pulled within six with Gavin Brown hit a three pointer with 3:20 left to push the lead back to nine points.  They again cut it six with 1:42 left and had a chance to make it a five point game with Jaywaun Hill at the line when Menas Stephens was called for a lane violation on the second shot.  Paul Bunch got a dunk on the other end to put the lead at 72-64 with 1:17 left.

Swank led Emporia State with a career high 18 points and added six assists and five rebounds.  Bunch scored 14 points with ten rebounds and tied his career record with seven blocked shots while Kaleb Wright added 16 points.

The Hornets are back in action on Saturday against Missouri Southern.  Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
