December 15, 2013-The #3 Lady Hornets shot 60% from the field in a 78-64 win over #11 West Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon on Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium. The win improved Emporia State to 9-0 on the season.
Emporia State jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never trailed in the contest. The Lady Buffs would cut the lead to 20-17 with 11:13 left when Laura Patrick hit a three-pointer to push the lead back to six. The Lady Hornets took a 42-30 lead into the intermission.
Emporia State scored the first six points of the second half to push the lead to 48-30 with 18:10 left in the game. The lead would reach 22 at 66-44 on a three-point play by Megan Holloway with 6:26 left. The final spread of 14 points was a close as the Lady Buffs would get after that.
Patrick led all scorers with 21 points while Kionna Kellogg added 16 points. Kelly Moten had 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Lady Hornets.
The Lady Hornets return to MIAA play on Wednesday, December 18 when they play host to Southwest Baptist. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium.
