HORNETS LOOK TO EXTEND STREAK
Emporia State will look to extend their unbeaten streak to five matches against the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at the Emporia HS Pitch. The Hornets have shut out their last four opponents.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State shutout their fourth straight opponent, this time by earning a 0-0 tie in double overtime against the #14 ranked Central Missouri Jennies. The Jennies out shot the Hornets 38-4 in the game, but Yadira Rivera made 14 saves in the game and Hornet defenders blocked eight Central Missouri shots.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 12-24-8 in his third season at Emporia State and ranks No. 2 on the Hornets all time win list for Women's Soccer coaches. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. He is 0-1-0 against the Lopers.
John Maessner enters his first season has head coach at Nebraksa-Kearney. In 2012, he served as interim head coach before being named head coach in Februrary 2013. The Lopers finished 9-7-2 in 2012 and Maessner is 1-0-0 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets are 5-3-1 after earning a tie against nationally ranked #14 Central Missouri State. The Hornets are now 1-0-1 against nationally ranked opponents in 2013. Emporia State upset #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime earlier in the season. Goal Keeper Yadira Rivera is on an Emporia State record streak of 395:45 shutout minutes Forward Tommi Bouknight leads the Hornets with three goals, while Rivera has a .932 save percentage.
KNOW THE FOE
The Lopers are 4-5-0 in 2013. Nebraska -Kearney is coming off a 2-0 non-conference loss to Rockhurst. Becka Talcott leads the Lopers with three goals scored. Goal Keeper Katelin Mielke has a .704 save percentage. The Lopers are just 1-3 on the road this season.
LAST TIME VS. NEBRASKA-KEARNEY
The Lopers erased a 2-0 deficit to defeat Emporia State last season 3-2 in Kearney, Neb. Elizabeth High and Shannon Thomas scored goals in the Hornets loss on September 28, 2012. The match was started at 10 p.m. to accomodate a high school football game at Cope Stadium.
SERIES RECORD
This will be just the second meeting between these two teams. Nebraska-Kearney leads the series 1-0-0.
