October 13, 2013- Emporia State soccer left  St. Joseph, Mo, with a 1-0 shutout victory over Missouri Western to improve its overall and MIAA records to above .500.

Bridget Wages scored her first goal of the season in the first half on an unassisted goal from the right corner to account for the match's lone score.

The Hornets finished with eight more shots in the match with a 19-11 advantage over the Girffons.

Melanie Nuessen earned the win in goal for the Hornets. Nuessen, a senior from Americus, Kan.,  had three saves in her second start of the season.

With the win Emporia State moves to 6-5-2 overall in 2013 and 3-2-2 in the MIAA. The Hornets have shutout opponents seven times this season.

The Hornets return to action on Friday, October 18, with a road match in St. Charles, Mo. against Lindenwood University.
