HORNETS LOOK TO REBOUND
Emporia State will take the pitch Sunday, October 13, in St. Joseph, Missouri looking to push their overall and MIAA records above .500 after a tough 4-1 loss to Northwest Missouri.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State got a goal from McKenize Koch, her third on the season, and out shot Northwest 20-18, but fell to the Bearcats 4-1. The loss evened up the Hornets record at 5-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the MIAA. Northwest Missouri got three first half goals. Anna Calgaard scored for the fourth time in the season and Jordan Albright had three assists for Northwest Missouri.
THE COACHES
Bryan Sailer is 12-26-9 in his third season at Emporia State and ranks No. 2 on the Hornets all time win list for Women's Soccer coaches. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record. He is 1-2-0 against the Griffons.
Chad Edwards is in his 3rd season as head coach at Missouri Western. He currently has a coaching record of 12-27-2 at MWU. He is 2-1-0 against the Hornets.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets are 5-5-2 after the loss to Northwest Missouri. The Hornets are 1-0-1 against nationally ranked teams this season. Emporia State upset #19 Regis 2-1 in double overtime earlier in the season. The Hornets then played #5 ranked Central Missouri to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. The win over Regis was the first victory over a nationally ranked team in the history of the program. Shannon Thomas leads the team in shots with 24.
KNOW THE FOE
The Griffons are 2-8-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the MIAA. Missouri Western's scheduled game against Washburn on Friday was postponed due to lightning in St. Joseph. That game will be rescheduled for next week. The Griffons have been out scored 23-6 on the season. Junior forward Tara Russell and senior mid-fielder Ashley Jaravich have accounted for all six goals scoring four and two respectively.
LAST TIME VS. MISSOURI WESTERN
Abby Widrig scored a goal thirty seconds into overtime to defeat Emporia State 2-1 last season in Emporia on October 7, 2012.
IN THE MIAA
The Hornets entered play this weekend second in the MIAA in goals against average at 0.69. Northeastern State lead the MIAA with a 0.67 average.

The Hornets will play a road match against Lindendwood at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. Five of the six remaining regular season matches for the Hornets will be played on the road.
