Hornets can't overcome 3 first half Bearcat goals

October 11, 2013-Emporia State outshot Northwest Missouri 18-3 in the second half but could not overcome three first half goals from the Bearcats in a 4-1 loss in Maryville, Mo.  With the loss the Hornets even their record at 5-5-2 on the season.

Northwest scored just 2:54 into the match on a goal by Anna Calgaard.  They made it 2-0 with a goal from Anna Holden in the 20th minute.  The Bearcats then scored with just 1:16 left in the opening half on a goal from Ashley Cole.  NWMSU outshot Emporia State 10-2 in the first half.

Crystal McElhose made it 4-0 Bearcats in the 54th minute as the Hornets surrendered as many goals as they had given up in the previous eight matches combined.

Emporia State tried a furious comeback in the second half getting off 18 shots in the second period compared to just three for NWMSU. McKenzie Koch was the only Hornet to find the back of the net however as Emporia State fell 4-1.

The Hornets will look to get back above .500 on Sunday when they play at Missouri Western.  Kick-off is set for 12 noon in St. Joseph, Mo.
