January 27, 2013-Rachel Hanf scored a career high 23 points to lead the Emporia State women to an 89-57 win over Central Oklahoma. With the effort she became the 26th Lady Hornet to score 1,000 career points.
The Bronchos jumped out to an 11-4 lead to start the game before the Lady Hornets answered with a 7-0 run of their own to tie it at 11 with 12:33 left in the opening half. The game stayed within three points over the next five minutes until Emporia State used a 7-0 run to go up by eight at 30-22 with 6:12 left. The Lady Hornets then used a 13-0 run blow the game open and take a 43-24 lead with 1:28 left in the half.
Emporia State would close the half on a 26-7 run to lead 49-29 at the intermission. Hanf had 21 of her points in the opening 20 minutes.
The lead would grow to as much as 36 with 1:33 left in the game before Emporia State settled in for the 32 point victory.
Hanf tied her career high with five made three-pointers as Emporia State hit a season high 13 treys in the game. She was joined in double figures by Desiree Wylie with a career high 15 points, Rheanna Egli with 11 points and Laura Patrick with ten. Wylie had nine rebounds and Egli dished nine assists as both narrowly missed double-doubles.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, January 30 as they travel to Neb.-Kearney. Tip-off from the Health and Sports Center in Kearney, Neb. is set for 5:30 p.m.
