Emporia State's forwards responded to the goal as Tommi Bouknight (Jr./Olathe, Kan.) and High had shots on goal in the 16th and 18th minute respectively, forcing Corey LaMoureaux to make two saves.

The Bulldogs nearly doubled their advantage when Ashley McMahon's shot struck the crossbar ten minutes before half.

Emporia State equalized five minutes later. Foutch played the ball to High, who struck the ball home into the bottom right corner from 15 yards.

Southwestern Oklahoma State regained the lead when Natalie Crosslin turned in a Josie Price corner kick seven minutes into the second half.

The Hornets searched for another goal, but had difficulty creating chances in the second half, generating three shots. Shannon Thomas (So./Shawnee, Kan) forced a save in the 84th minute while a last gasp effort by the goal scorer High was also saved.
