February 4, 2012-In a battle of top 25 teams, #22 Emporia State defeated #10 Northeastern State 52-42 on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.  The win moves the Lady Hornets to 7-4 against top ten teams in White Auditorium all-time.
In a physical game ESU trailed 5-2 at the first media timeout and were behind 12-2 with 11:53 left in the half.  The Riverhawks went up 15-7 with 6:45 left on a three pointer by Katy Harsen. The Lady Hornets responded with a 15-0 run and took the lead on Kelsey Balcom's layup with 3:05 left in the half.  Balcom then hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left to send ESU to the locker room with a 25-17 lead.
ESU went up by nine at 36-27 on a layup by Robben with 11:00 left in the game.  NSU responded with an 11-2 run to tie the score at 38 with 6:10 remaining on Sarah Green's three-pointer.  Balcom gave the Lady Hornets the lead for good on a put back with 5:40 left. Neither team would score over the next 3:08 until Rachel Hanf hit a three-pointer with 2:42 left to give ESU a 43-38 lead. 
The Lady Hornets then connected on nine of 13 free throws in the final 1:19 to secure their third win over a top 25 team this year.
Robben led all scorers with 16 points while Balcom added a double double with ten points and a career high 12 rebounds.  Merissa Quick was also in double figures in rebounds with 11 while Sarah Wood pulled down a career high nine boards.  As a team ESU outrebounded NSU 51-26 on the night.
The Lady Hornets will return to MIAA play on Wednesday when they play host to Southwest Baptist. Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 5:30 p.m.
NOTES:
Heather Robben's MIAA record for consecutive free throws came to an end at 45.
