November 20, 2012 – Gavin Brown posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Emporia State men to an 83-70 win over Missouri S&T at W.L. White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Kaleb Wright was the Hornets’ top scorer with 18 points, while Tre Boutilier added 13 as five Hornets reached double-digits in scoring. Brown also the Emporia State with five assists and three steals. The Hornets shot 54.0% from the field, and went 23 of 30 from the foul line.
The Hornets never trailed in the game and scored the first seven points. Emporia State extended its lead to as many as 17 in the first half, when the Hornets led 29-12 at the 6:09 mark of the first half. Emporia State was led by Terrence Moore in the first half who had 10 points on 5 of 5 shooting, while adding two steals.
Emporia State shot 59.3% from the field in the first half while holding Missouri S&T to 33.3%.
In the second half, the Hornets build on their lead and led by 21 points with 10:21 to go with the score 60-39. Chris Sights, who had 15 points, helped Emporia State reach their biggest lead of the night after knocking down a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to make the score 51-32.
The Hornets led by 20 with 6:04 left in the game when Missouri S&T began to press, and cut the lead to 76-66 with 2:39 to play. Sights, Daniel Shaw, Micah Swank, and Taylor Euler combined to go 7 of 8 from the free throw line to help secure Emporia State’s fourth win of the season.
Nusrath Khan led the Miners in scoring with 17 points.
The Hornets are in action next Tuesday when they take on Newman in Wichita. Tip-off from Fugate Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
