SO WE MEET AGAIN

Emporia State hosts Missouri S&T in the second meeting between the two teams this season. 

 

LAST TIME OUT 

The Emporia State men hit just two of 25 shots from behind the three point line in a 65-60 loss at Western Oregon on Saturday night in Monmouth, Ore.  Kaleb Wright led Emporia State with 20 points and five rebounds. Wright was the only player in double figures for Emporia State with 20, but Terrence Moore and Gavin Brown each had nine points. A Taylor Euler three-pointer gave Emporia State a 44-39 lead with 10:38 remaining, but Western Oregon went on a 13-1 run to take a 52-45 lead at the 6:25 mark and held on for the win. The Emporia State men used a balanced offense and a suffocating defense to post a 64-56 victory over St. Martin’s at the WOU Phoenix Inn Shootout in Monmouth, Ore. on Friday. Kaleb Wright led Emporia State with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Daniel Shaw with 12 points. Emporia State held St. Martin’s to just .311 shooting for the game.

THE COACHES

Shaun Vandiver is 12-19 in his second season at Emporia State. A first round draft pick by the Golden State Warriors in 1991 spent ten years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level. As a player he was a key component in Hutchinson CC’s tournament run to the 1988 NJCAA National Championship before earning first-team All-Big 8 honors at Colorado. 

Jim Glash is 22-50 in his fourth year at Missouri S&T and is 182-181 in his ninth year overall. 


SCOUTING THE HORNETS    

Kaleb Wright has led the Hornets in scoring in every game this season, and is averaging 21.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Daniel Shaw put up Emporia State’s first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Hornets’ 64-56 win over Saint Martin’s. 

 

SCOUTING MISSOURI S&T

The Miners beat Southwest Baptist in their last outing 75-61 in Rolla. Mudi Eruteya led the Miners with 22 points and eight rebounds,  and is the Miners’ top scorer. Missouri S&T is averaging 65.5 points per game on the season and is shooting 54.5% from the three-point line. 

SERIES HISTORY

This will be the 22nd meeting between the two squads with Emporia State holding a 13-8 overall edge. The Hornets have won five straight versus the Miners. 

LAST TIME AGAINST THE MINERS

Kaleb Wright scored 22 points in Emporia State’s 66-56 season-opening win at Missouri S&T on Nov. 10. Wright scored 15 of his points before the break, going six of nine from the field and three of five from three-point range. Tre Boutilier scored 15 points off the bench for Emporia State. Taylor Euler scored 10 points and led the Hornets with six assists. Gavin Brown led the Hornets with 10 rebounds and added eight points.

UP NEXT

The Hornets head to Wichita to take on Newman on Nov. 27. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
