HORNETS FINISH SEASON AT HOME

Emporia State wraps up its regular season with a pair home games versus Northeastern State on Friday and Central Oklahoma on Sunday for Senior Day. 

LAST TIME OUT  

Tommi Bouknight scored the game-tying goal in the 77th minute to give the Emporia State soccer team a 2-2 tie in double overtime against Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. Goalkeeper Melanie Nuessen made seven saves. Emporia State took the lead inside ten minutes when Emily Burris found the net on the Hornets first shot at the 9:16 mark in the first half. The Lions equalized with five minutes remaining in the first half when Natascha Lord found Megan Stueve, whose 12th goal of the year made the score 1-1 at half time. The Lions grabbed the lead in the 66th minute when Dana Wilhelm was set up by Stueve to give Missouri Southern a 2-1 advantage.

THE COACHES?

Bryan Sailer is 7-19-7 in his second season at Emporia State. Prior to coming to ESU he led Barton County Community College to a 59-23-2 overall record in four seasons. He led them to the KJCAA Championships during the 2008 season and was named  Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Barton to an 18-4 record.

Chase Wooten is in his third season as head coach of Northeastern State. His all-time record is 28-13-9.

Mike Cook is in his 15th season as head coach of Central Oklahoma. His all-time record is 226-73-19.

SERIES HISTORY

This is the second meeting between Northeastern State and Emporia State. NSU holds a 1-0-0 advantage over Emporia State all-time. 

Cental Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Emporia State 2-0-0.

LAST TIME VS. OPPONENTS

Emporia State and Northeastern State met in last year’s home opener on Sept. 8, a 2-1 Riverhawks win. Jordan Foutch scored for ESU. 

Emporia State last met Central Oklahoma on Oct. 2, 2005 in Edmond. The Bronchos won the game 3-0, with all goals coming in the second half.


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Northeastern State won its last game, defeating Ouachita Baptist 3-1 at home on Oct. 23. Northeastern State has scored 35 goals this season with 21 coming in the first half. The Riverhawks possess four players who have scored at least five goals this season in Latta, Jennifer Clark, Emily Voges, and Rachel Sordahl. Goalkeeper Maggie Kloza has posted a 0.92 goals against average.

Central Oklahoma tied Northeastern State 1-1 on Oct. 19 in Edmond. The Bronchos have only allowed 10 goals in 16 games this season. Goalkeeper Meagan Burke a 0.58 goals against average and seven shutouts. Brittni Walker is UCO’s top scorer with seven goals and four assists, totaling 18 points.

SENIOR SALUTE

Sunday marks the final regular season game for three seniors: Lindsay Allen, Mindi Lozenski, and Nikki Schmitz. Allen has played in 32 matches in her career, primarily as a reserve defender and midfielder. Lozenski is second on the team in points with seven (three goals, one assist) and tied for second in assists last season with three. Schmitz has made 12 starts in goal for the Hornets this season, both of her wins were shutouts. Schmitz was a second team All-MIAA perfomer last season with a 0.94 goals against average, second in the conference.

CLASSIC NO. 10 

Tommi Bouknight has scored in three of the past four games for Emporia State.
