December 17, 2011-Merissa Quick recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the #23 Emporia State Lady Hornets defeated Truman 70-49 on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.  The win pushes ESU to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in the MIAA.

Both teams started out sluggishly with ESU holding a 2-1 lead at the first media timeout.  The Lady Hornets would go on an 11-1 run to take a 15-5 lead with 7:58 left in the half.  After missing eight of their first nine shots, ESU hit five of seven from the field in the run. A three pointer from Kelsey Balcom with 3:35 left in the period gave ESU their biggest first half lead at 30-14.  The Lady Hornets pounded the ball inside on their way to a 34-20 halftime lead thanks to 20 points in the paint.

The Lady Hornets would take the first of three 21 point leads at 50-29 with 11:36 remaining following a 9-0 run.  Four different Lady Hornets would score during the run.

Kelsey Balcom scored 16 points to lead four Lady Hornets in double figures.  Quick added 12 points while Rachel Hanf and Sarah Wood each scored ten points.  Heather Robben scored nine points with a team high five assists.

ESU will now take a two week break before wrapping up 2011 with a New Year’s Eve game at Southwest Baptist.  Tip-off from Bolivar on December 31 is set for 1:30 p.m.
