January 18, 2012 -- The Emporia State men's basketball team erased an 11 point deficit in the second half, but came up shy in overtime in a 72-67 loss to #25 Fort Hays State. The Hornets trailed by four points with 27 seconds to play as Chris Sights scored four straight to force the extra period.

The Hornets shot .524 in the first half, but Fort Hays State hit 6 of 12 from behind the arc and took a 33-27 lead into halftime. The Hornets outscored the Tigers 16-6 in the final eight minutes to force the overtime after trailing by as much as 11 at the 14:27 mark. ESU would lead by one in overtime, but FHSU would socre the final six points to close out the victory.

Troy Pierce led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds to go along with three assists. Chris Sights also had 15 points for the Hornets and led the way with six assists. Travis Dykman was two of three from the three point line and scored a career high 14 points. Taylor Euler hit three from behind the arc and also finished with 13 points for the Hornets.

The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday, January 22 for a scheduled 3:30 tip against Northwest Missouri from White Auditorium.
