LET'S START ANOTHER ONE
The #18 Lady Hornets play host to the Lincoln Blue Tigers after having a ten game winning streak snapped by Pittsburg State. The ten game winning streak was tied for the 12th longest in ESU history.
LAST TIME OUT
The #19 Emporia State Lady Hornets were outscored 37-31 in the second half of a 66-60 loss to #13 Pittsburg State on Saturday night in White Auditorium. ESU jumped out to a 9-1 lead to start the game and led by as many as ten in the first half. PSU ended the half on a 13-4 run as the teams went to the locker rooms tied at 29. The Gorillas scored the first four points of the second half and their largest lead of the second half was at eight points with 5:54 left in the game. ESU pulled within four points four times in the final five minutes but would miss five of eight free throws in the final three minutes. Merissa Quick led ESU with 16 points and ten rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Heather Robben with 15 pointts and Jocelyn Cummings with 11 points. Brooke Conley led Pittsburg State with 17 points.
THE COACHES
Jory Collins is 30-11 in his second year as the head coach of the Lady Hornets and is 4-3 vs. Top 25 teams. This is his 11th season on the Lady Hornet coaching staff and ESU has advanced to the NCAA tournament in eight of his ten previous seasons. He is 2-0 against Lincoln.
Katie Vaughn is 21-18 in her second year at Lincoln. She was 56-37 as head coach at Moberly Area CC. She played at UCM from 1998-2002.
SCOUTING THE BLUE TIGERS
Lincoln is 10-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAA. They are leading the MIAA in steals. Vivian Essuon leads the Blue Tigers in scoring and rebounding at 16.0 and 10.5 points per game. She is shooting .637 from the field to rank fourth in the nation. She is joined in double figures by Freddie Sims at 11.8 points with Dahlia Booker and Arriana Walker both at 9.8 points per game.
THE SERIES
The Lady Hornets lead the all-time series 16-2 and have won 11 straight against the Blue Tigers. The two wins by Lincoln have both come in White Auditorium, with the last one a 65-61 decision in 1994-95.
LAST TIME VS. LINCOLN
Every Lady Hornet scored and four reached double figures as #25 Emporia State defeated Lincoln 84-44 to snap a three game losing streak. ESU scored the first ten points of the game and jumped out to an 18-2 lead with 12:11 left in the first half. The lead would grow to 42 points at one point in the second half. Alli Volkens recorded her 20th double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Kelsey Balcom had her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rheanna Egli had 13 points and Jocelyn Cummings added 12 points.
UP NEXT
The #18 Lady Hornets travel to Topeka for the renewal of the Turnpike Tussle against #17 Washburn. Tip-off from Lee Arena is set for 1:30 p.m. The two have combined to win 11 of the last 13 MIAA regular season championships.
