October 29, 2011 -- The Emporia State soccer team will make their first appearance in any type of postseason play with a 2-0 win over Missouri Western. ESU got two first half goals and allowed only nine Missouri Western shots to advance to the MIAA Tournament.

Mallory Walden scored her third goal of the season off Kelly Bacon's first assist to put ESU up 1-0 in the 18th minute. Walden struck again, this time unassisted in the 24th minute to give ESU the 2-0 advantage. ESU put nine shots on frame during the game as MWSU only got five shots on goal. Nikki Schmitz pitched her fifth shutout, sixth of her career, turning away five Griffon shots.

ESU will face Northwest Missouri at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament held on the campus of UMKC in Kansas City, Mo.
