September 18, 2011 -- The Emporia State soccer team outshot Missouri Western 17-9, but could not overcome two first half goals in a 2-1 loss. The Hornets were outshot 8-6 on goal as all of the scoring occured in the first half.
Missouri Western got on the board first in the 27th minute as Katie Kempf scored from just outside the box of a foul restart. MWSU added their second tally last in the half in the 42nd minute as Ashley Juravich scored off a Kempf pass. ESU would answer as Hannah Carlson hit a shot from just outside the box on a foul restart to cut the lead to one. In goal Katrina Goscha finished with three saves while Natalie Hoernig finished with two.
ESU will return to the pitch on Sept. 22 when they face Washburn in the Turnpike Tussle scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
