November 3, 2011 -- The Emporia State soccer team scored on fifty percent of their shots on goal, but could not overcome a strong NWMSU attack in a 4-2 loss. The Hornets didn't get a shot off in the first period and could not dig out of that hole in the opening round loss in the MIAA Tournament.
Victoria Von Mende got Northwest Missouri on the board scoring in the 17th minute. The Bearcats would take a 2-0 advantage in the 56th when Emilee Davison scored off an Amanda Bundrant pass. Anna Calgaard would then score off a penalty kick to give NWMSU the 3-0 lead.
ESU answered in the 65th minute as Jessica Decker scored off an pass from Mindi Lozenski. Anna Calgaard added her second goal of the night to give the Bearcats a 4-1 lead. Sarah Anderson would then score in the 82nd minute to cut the lead to two. Nikki Schmitz had four saves between the pipes for ESU.
ESU finishes the season 3-10-5, 2-5-1 in the MIAA, finishing fifth in the MIAA regular season.
