December 10, 2011-Heather Robben scored a career high 31 points to lead the Emporia State Lady Hornets to an 80-66 victory over #22 Central Missouri on Saturday night in White Auditorium. The win was ESU’s second straight over a nationally ranked opponent following their 60-54 win over #13 Northeastern State on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 9-4 lead and never trailed in the game. The Jennies cut the lead to one at 22-21 with 5:45 remaining in the half. ESU regained control with a 10-2 run to take a 32-23 lead with 2:56 left in the half and led 37-29 at the break.
ESU’s lead would grow to 18 points at 55-37 with 13:16 left in the game. UCM cut the lead to single digits at 69-60 with 3:00 left on a pair of Nicole Caddell free throws. Jocelyn Cummings answered with a three pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Lady Hornets a 72-60 lead with 2:31 left. ESU then hit four of four free throws and got layups from Kathryn Flott and Heather Robben to ice the win.
Robben led ESU with a career high 31 points and was joined in double figures by Rachel Hanf with 14 points and six assists. Merissa Quick had ten rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets. ESU shot a blistering .560 from the field including .526 from behind the three-point line.
Shaquanda Wiggins led the Jennies with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Caddell added 22 points for UCM as no other Jennie scored more than six points.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 17 against Truman. Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 2:30 p.m.
