November 30, 2011-The Emporia State Lady Hornets got 18 points from Rachel Hanf on seven of ten shooting in a 68-56 win at Northwest Missouri State to open MIAA play. Hanf was one of four Lady Hornets in double figures.
ESU used a 13-2 run midway through the first half to turn a four point game into a 26-11 lead with 8:29 left in the half. NWMSU then went on a 10-0 run of their own to cut the Lady Hornet lead to 26-21 with 3:08 remaining. ESU answered with an 8-3 run to end the half and went to the locker room with a 34-24 lead.
The Lady Hornets opened the second half with a 14-2 run with points from four players for their largest lead of the night at 48-26 with 16:18 left in the game. The lead would remain at 16 points or greater until the Bearcats ended the game on a 10-0 run to make the final score 68-56.
Hanf was joined in double figures by Merissa Quick with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Kelsey Balcom and Heather Balcom each added ten points.
ESU is back in action on December 3 when they travel to Missouri Western. Tip-off on Saturday is set for 1:30 p.m. at MWSU Fieldhouse in St. Joseph, Mo.
