November 26, 2011-Rachel Hanf scored 15 points to lead five Lady Hornets in double figures as Emporia State posted an 84-49 victory at West Florida in the UWF Thanksgiving Classic in Pensacola, Fla.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never trailed as they won their third straight game. Each of ESU’s five starters scored during the opening run. The Lady Hornets would hit seven three pointers in the first half as they settled into a 43-27 lead at the break.
ESU opened the second half with a 15-2 run to go up by 29 points at 58-29 with 16:18 left in the game. The lead would not drop below 26 the rest of the game and would grow to as much as 39 at one point.
ESU shot .474 from the field with a season high ten made three pointers. The Lady Hornets had ten steals and forced 27 turnovers while holding the Argos to .370 shooting from the field.
Hanf was joined in double figures by Kelsey Balcom and Heather Robben with 13 points each, Merissa Quick with 11 and Jocelyn Cummings with ten points. Quick had a game high seven rebounds while Cummings dished five assists.
ESU will open MIAA play on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at defending conference champion Northwest Missouri. Tip-off between the last two MIAA teams to make the Elite Eight is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bearcat Arena in Marysville, Mo.
