Former Hornet, Kelsey Phillips, is in her first year as the graduate assistant. Her duties will include working with the pitching staff, study hall, ESU Softball social media, among other tasks. Phillips received her undergraduate degree in Communication from ESU and is pursuing her graduate degree in Instructional Design and Technology. She is expected to graduate in the spring of 2022.

Phillips has spent the last four years on the mound for the Hornets. She joined the program in the fall of 2017 and finished out her career in the spring of 2021. Before her time as a Hornet, Phillips played at Labette Community College. While there, Phillips went 17-9 with a team best 3.45 ERA in the circle. As a Hornet, Phillips had a record of 28-23 on the mound with an ERA of 3.45. She also produced offensively for the Hornets with a batting average of .319.

While at Labette CC, Phillips received All-Tournament NFCA Leadoff Classic, All-Region First-Team Utility Player, First-Team Academic All-American, and Academic All-KJCCC award recognitions. As a Hornet, Phillips was recognized as a Sauder Alumni Scholar in 2019 and 2020, as well as being on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll all four years.
