Tyler Bredehoeft enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Emporia State men's basketball program.
Previously Bredehoeft served as an assistant coach for the University of Saint Mary Spires from 2013 to 2018. Over the past five seasons, the Spires have posted a 95-57 record and a 62-38 conference record, while receiving votes and being ranked nationally in the NAIA DII polls during those seasons. During his seasons with the Spires he saw several of his players receive KCAC honors as well as NAIA All-American honors. Bredehoeft has seen an All-American on his team every season since he joined the Spires in 2013.
Bredehoeft coached the all-time leader in collegiate points scored for a Kansas college player, Grant Greenberg, who broke Danny Manning's in-state record by scoring 3,330 total points in his four-year career. During his time as an assistant, he saw his team ranked nationally in many different categories at the end of each season. Top 15 nationally for free throw percentage three times, top 20 in three-point percentage twice, top 25 in three-point field goal percentage defense three times, top 25 in three-point field goals made per game two times and top 25 in assists per game and assist to turnover ratio both two times.
Bredehoeft served as the recruiting coordinator for the Spires from 2015 to 2018. Bredehoeft was also active in the program with a focus on player academics, strength and conditioning, player development, scouting, game preparation and on floor coaching.
Prior to his time at Saint Mary, Bredehoeft was the head coach for the boys’ basketball team at Tina-Avalon (Mo.) HS.
A native of Alma, Mo. Bredehoeft played two seasons at Concordia University where he earned All GPAC honors his freshman and sophomore years. He finished his player career at Central Methodist University where he helped the Eagles win a HAAC Championship and earn a national ranking of #11 in 2010.
In his prep career at St. Paul Lutheran, he led his team to two consecutive district titles and an appearance in the state quarterfinals his senior year. He was named a three-time All-Conference player, KMZU Dream Team Player of the Year (2006), Conference MVP (2006) and 1st Team All State (2007).Â
Bredehoeft graduated from Central Methodist University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in History-Education and graduated from the University of Saint Mary in 2015 with a Masters of Art in Education & completed the Sports Administration Master’s program in 2017.
