Tyler Kitzman is in his second year as Assistant Athletic Director, Strength and Conditioning and leads the Hornet football strength and conditioning program. Kitzman brings to Emporia State extensive experience working with football student athletes, as well as, experience working with a broad range of other men’s and women’s athletic programs. In a relatively brief time under Kitzman’s guidance and supervision, the Hornet football team has made impressive gains in strength, speed, flexibility and weight management.
Prior to coming to Emporia State, Kitzman was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at NCAA Division I Central Michigan from 2020 to 2023. At Central Michigan, Kitzman served as the top assistant for the Chippewa football team and lead strength and conditioning coach for men’s basketball and wrestling and women’s lacrosse and field hockey.
From 2016 to 2019, Kitzman was a strength and conditioning coach at NCAA Division I – FCS Delaware State, eventually rising to the position of interim head strength and conditioning coach. Kitzman served as the head strength and conditioning coach for football and men’s and women’s basketball. During his tenure at Delaware State, Kitzman also worked with soccer, tennis, lacrosse, bowling and track and field.
Kitzman earned his bachelor’s degree from Simpson (Iowa) College in 2013 and a master’s degree in applied exercise science – sports performance from Concordia University (Chicago) in 2017. Kitzman also completed internship programs at the University of Iowa and Coastal Carolina University.
Kitzman and his wife Paige have two sons, Cole and Ryan.
