Scott Waters Directory Portrait

Scott Waters

Dr. Scott Waters, known as “Doc” to the Hornet football players and coaches, has served the Hornet football program as Chaplain/Player Development support person since January 2020.

Since his brief career as a Hornet defensive back, in the early 1970’s, Doc has been an ardent fan and supporter of Hornet football.  He is very appreciative of the opportunity to serve in the voluntary role Coach Higgins has given him.

Doc graduated with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Master’s in Elementary Administration from ESU.  After teaching in the Emporia school district, Doc earned a PhD from the University of Oregon, then returned to Emporia and was a faculty member in The Teachers College for 36 years until his retirement in December 2020.  The last nine years of his time at ESU Doc served as Faculty Representative for the Hornet Athletic Department, assisting student-athletes with eligibility and degree progress matters.

Doc is married to Kathy, who taught Nutrition at ESU for 15 years and recently retired after 20 years at Newman Regional Health as a Clinical Dietician.  Doc and Kathy have five adult children, three of whom hold ESU degrees, and eight grandchildren.
