Tony Koehling

Recruiting Area: Southeast Oklahoma; North Central Kansas; Western Nebraska
Tony Koehling is in his fifth season with the Hornets, serving as the Run Game Coordinator while coaching the Offensive Line and S Backs. Under Koehling’s leadership, the Hornets have been able create depth on their offensive line. After graduating six senior offensive lineman from 2017 Koehling kept an experienced group with depth including two-year starter Estevan Arana. In 2015, the Hornets were able to develop one of their deepest offensive lines as 12 different players saw action in at least four games and eight Hornets started at least one game. In 2019, they return 4 starters on the offensive line with 2 of them earning All-MIAA honors last season, Austin Unterreiner (2nd Team) and Estevan Arana (Honorable Mention).
 
Since joining the Emporia State Coaching Staff, the Hornets have had 3 trips to the post-season and 2 NCAA playoff appearances with a record of 36-14. In 2015, the Hornets defeated Henderson State in the 2nd round of the NCAA playoffs while rushing for 268 yards on the day. In 2018, the Hornets were led by Senior Landon Nault who was the only Running Back in the MIAA to rush for over 1,000 yards behind the Hornet’s Offensive Line.
 
Prior to joining the Emporia State, Koehling spent 3 Seasons on Staff at Ohio University. During the 2014 season he worked primarily with the offensive line and assisted with Special Teams. Koehling was working with the linebackers at Ohio during the 2013 season when the Bobcats played in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla. During his first year working with the Ohio defense in 2012, the Bobcats ended the season by winning the Independence Bowl against the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
 
Prior to the 2012 season, he assisted the football team at Covington Catholic HS in Kentucky, working primarily with the freshman offensive line.
 
Koehling played on the offensive line at Thomas More College (TMC). While at TMC, the Saints went to the NCAA Division III playoffs following an undefeated regular season and conference championship in 2009.
 
A 2013 Ohio University graduate, he earned his bachelor’s degree in specialized studies concentrating in sports management and sociology with a minor in political science. He also completed his Master’s of Recreation and Sports Sciences in Coaching Education at Ohio in the Fall of 2014.
 
Koehling was a participant in the 2015 Future Football Coaches Academy hosted by the NCAA and AFCA in Louisville, KY. He is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and a graduate of Roger Bacon HS. Koehling and his wife, Andrea, currently reside in Emporia and she is originally from Clay Center, KS.
