Matt Nardo

Matt Nardo enters his fourth season with the Hornets after joining the coaching staff in 2014. Matt serves as the H-Backs coach and works with the inside receivers, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator.  Prior to joining the Emporia State coaching staff, Nardo spent the 2013 season coaching the defensive backs at the University of Pikeville in Kentucky, where he helped the Bears to a 7-4 record.  It was their second winning season in school history and the first winning season in eight years.


 

Nardo previously spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach at Marietta College in Ohio.  During those two seasons, he produced five All-Conference performers, and helped his receivers break several of the schools receiving records.  His coaching career also includes experience at the high school level.  Nardo spent three seasons coaching at Bishop McLaughlin Catholic HS in Spring Hill, Florida.  He was promoted to head coach in his final season, and led the Hurricanes to their best record in school history at 7-3.


 

Nardo’s coaching career began at Muskingum University in Ohio, where he served as a defensive assistant for three seasons producing five All-Conference performers.  While at Muskingum, Nardo’s players received several individual accolades including a National Defensive Player of the Week, Ohio Athletic Conference Linebacker of the Year, and an invitation to play in the Aztec Bowl in Mexico.


 
Nardo graduated from Ohio University in 2005, with a BS in Sports Science, and earned a MAE in Adult Education from Muskingum University in 2007. He is a native of Shadyside, Ohio and a graduate of St. John Central HS.  Nardo is the son of Perry and Jayme Nardo and has two brothers - Bryan, who he joins on the Emporia State coaching staff, and Luke, who is entering his senior year at Shadyside HS.
