Devin Johnston returns for his second season as a defensive graduate assistant helping coach the defensive backs. In 2023, Johnston helped coach Jaaron Joseph and Montrell Wilson to All-MIAA Second Team honors.
Johnston came to Emporia State in 2023 after a playing career at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas where he played defensive back from 2018 to 2022. Johnston finished his career with 19 interceptions, 32 passes broken up and 191 tackles. Johnston was a two-time team captain, five-time All-KCAC selection and earned American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) NAIA All-American recognition for his play in 2021.
Johnston is pursuing a Master of Science in health, physical education and coaching. Johnston earned his bachelor’s degree in sports studies from Ottawa University in May of 2022.
Johnston is originally from Leavenworth, Kansas.
