Chuck Detwiler is in his second year with the Hornet coaching staff following coaching stints at the NCAA Division I and California high school and junior college levels. He will assist with the defensive secondary.
Detwiler saw action as a defensive back in 35 games with the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Cardinals from 1970-73 and was a starter for the Honolulu Hawaiians in the World Football League in 1974-75 following an all-conference collegiate career at Utah State.Â
After his playing days he served as an assistant coach at Stanford and Weber State before becoming a head coach at the high school level. He was on the sideline for the infamous 1982 Big Game between Stanford and California that ended with Cal scoring on a kick-off return that included five laterals.
Detwiler was an assistant coach at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, Calif. in 2012 before moving to Emporia to be closer to his daughter and her family.
