Cory Wright

Cory Wright is in his first year with the Hornet coaching staff and will be the Pitching Coach for Emporia State.
 
Wright has been the pitching coach at Valdosta State for the past two seasons. The Blazers have advanced to the NCAA South Regional each of those seasons while their pitching staff has allowed the fewest walks in the Gulf South over that time. This past summer he served as the pitching coach for the Jackson (Tenn.) Rockabillys of the Prospect League.
 
Wright wrapped up his playing career at Valdosta State. He appeared in  eight games out of the bullpen for the Blazers in 2021 after transferring from NCAA Division I Mercer.  He played in 42 games for the Bears with nine starts at first base.
 
He was a two way player his first two seasons of college first at Kansas State and then at Parkland (Ill.) CC. He hit .402 and scored 67 runs while posting a 2.25 ERA in six appearances on the mound. Parkland advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series.  He played in 21 games with eight pitching appearances as a freshman for Brad Hill at Kansas State.
 
A native of St. Charles, Ill., both of his parents attended Emporia State with his father Phil a member of the 1984 Hornet team that advanced to the NAIA World Series.
