2018: As a redshirt junior, Thies pitched in 14 games and started six with a 2-2 record and one save. he pitched 35 innings with 26 K's and 12 walks.

2017: As a redshirt sophomore, Thies pitched in 14 games and started 12 with a 3-5 record and 1 complete game. Thies had 51.2 innings with a 6.97 ERA for the Cavaliers.
 
2016: As a redshirt freshman, Thies transferred to Johnson County Community College where he started all 7 games he appeared in with a 4-0 record. Thies had 26 innings with 22 strikeouts, 14 walks, and a 3.46 ERA.
 
2015: As a freshman, Thies attended Wichita State where he received medical redshirt with an elbow injury.
