September 5, 2026 - Emporia State soccer fell on Saturday in their road matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma 3-1, despite holding a 23-11 advantage in shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southwestern Oklahoma picked up their first two goals within 20 minutes, scoring in the 13th minute before doubling the advantage five minutes later to put the Hornets behind 2-0.Â
Emporia State tallied chances throughout the first half, but nothing found the net as the Hornets entered the halftime break trailing 2-0.
Following the break, both teams had three shots over the first 15 minutes, but it was the Bulldogs who scored in the 63rd minute on a penalty as Southwestern Oklahoma extended the advantage to 3-0.
The Hornets continued applying pressure, and were unable to breakthrough until the 85th minute, as Emporia State drew a penalty which was converted by Amy Paver to make the score 3-1. Neither team generated any more offense as the match wrapped up with the Hornets falling 3-1.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State had 23 shots compared to 11 for the Bulldogs, and a 9-7 edge in shots on target. Megan Kephart had nine shots and three on goal, while Sammy Quiroz and Rylie Washington had three each.
UP NEXT
Emporia State will return home on Friday, September 11 to take on CSU-Pueblo at the ESU Pitch. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. between the Hornets and Thunderwolves.
