#25 Emporia State Volleyball Runs Win Streak to 10 Matches

Hornets get 3-1 win over SNU, 3-0 sweep of ECU

September 11, 2026-The #25 Emporia State volleyball team moved their winning streak to ten matches with a pair of wins at the MIAA-GAC Crossover in Edmond, Okla. on Friday.  The Hornets defeated 3-1 win over Southern Nazarene and a 3-0 sweep of East Central.

The Hornets dropped the first set for just the second time this year before coming back to take a 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, 25-14 win over Southern Nazarene in their first match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team took more than a three point lead to start the match. The Hornets trailed 18-17 when the Storm went on a six point run to take a 24-17 lead.  ESU fought off three set points before SNU closed out the 25-20 win.
The second set was tied at 9-9 when Brooklynn Weaver had back to back kills to ignite a 4-0 Hornet run and take a 13-9 lead.  After SNU scored two of the next three points, Emporia State went on a 5-0 run to take control of the set.  Two points from the Storm stopped the run but the Hornets scored the final six points for 25-13 win.
Neither team took more than a four point lead in the third set. ESU led 22-19 when SNU scored four straight to take a 23-22 lead. The teams traded the next four points with the Hornets fighting off two set points before scoring the final three points to take a 27-25 win.
Emporia State jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never trailed in the final set.  An 11-0 run gave the Hornets a 17-4 lead as they cruised to the 25-14 clinching victory.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Lavra Krizanic had a team high 19 kills on .415 hitting and 13 digs. She was joined in double figures by Jade Xu with ten kills on .409 hitting.  Brailee Bogle had a team high 29 assists with 13 digs while Miyu Tsurumaki had 28 digs.

The Hornets rolled through the first two sets and outlasted the Tigers in the third of a 25-15, 25-16, 29-27 win in the final match of the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The score was tied at 7-7 when the Hornets used a 3-0 run to take the lead for good in set one. ESU ended th set on a 9-2 run to take a 25-15 win.
In the second set an 8-1 run  gave the Hornets a 17-8 lead. The Tigers would not get within eight points the rest of the set, that coming as ECU fought off three set points before ESU won 25-16.
The final set was back and forth with the Tigers leading 21-18 when the Hornets answered with a 5-1 run to take a 23-22 lead.  ECU scored two straight to go up 24-23 and led 25-24 whe Lavra Krizanic had back to back kills to put ESU up 26-25.  The Tigers responded with two points of their own to set up another set point at 27-26 before Krizanic ignited a 3-0 match ending run for the 29-27 victory.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Krizanic had 21 of the Hornets 42 kills in the match on .415 hitting. Miyu Tsurumaki had 23 digs while Brailee Bogle dished 24 assists.
 
UP NEXT
The #25 Hornets will open MIAA play on Friday, September 18 when they travel to Pittsburg State.  First serve at John Lance Arena is set for 6:00 p.m.
