August 12, 2026-In line with best practices at major entertainment and athletics venues, Emporia State University Athletics has announced the implementation of a Clear Bag Policy for all Hornet home athletic events. The policy is designed to enhance fan safety at all ESU athletic venues.
The Clear Bag Policy helps ensure a secure game day environment for fans, student-athletes, coaches, and event staff. Fans are encouraged to review all guidelines in advance and plan accordingly prior to arriving on game day.
ESU Athletics is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment at all home events.
Permitted Bags Include:
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags not exceeding 12" x 6" x 12"
- One-gallon clear plastic storage bags
- Small clutch bags approximately 4.5" x 6.5" (with or without a strap or handle)
- Medically necessary items (subject to inspection)
- Diaper bags accompanying an infant or small child (subject to inspection)
Prohibited Bags Include:
- Backpacks and drawstring bags
- Purses larger than the approved clutch size
- Duffel bags, tote bags, and camera bags
- Coolers and other non-transparent containers
- Any tinted, patterned, or opaque bags
Food & Beverage:
- Each guest may bring one (1) unopened plastic bottle of water into the venue
- All other outside food or drink is not permitted
- Coolers, insulated cups, thermos bottles, and flasks are prohibited.
All permitted and prohibited items will be enforced at entry points, and all bags are subject to inspection. Fans arriving with non-compliant bags will be asked to return them to their vehicles prior to entry. No bag check will be available.
ESU Athletics encourages fans to plan ahead and arrive early to ensure compliance with the policy at all venues.
The first Emporia State home event will be a soccer match against Maryville (Mo.) on Saturday, August 29 at the ESU Pitch. The first Hornet home football game will be on Saturday, September 12 against Michigan Tech.
