May 9, 2026 – Emporia State baseball struggled to get going offensively, as they fell 11-1 against top-seeded and #5 Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon in the MIAA Championship Game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emporia State went down in order the first, and Pittsburg State used a pair of two-out doubles in their half to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Hornets again went in order in the second, and the Gorillas added to their tally, this time with three runs as they went ahead 4-0.
Emporia State's first two runners reached in the third inning, but both were left stranded. Pittsburg State then added one to move ahead 5-0. In the fourth, Emporia State put two more on base, which included their first hit of the afternoon, but again were kept off the board. The Gorillas continued their stretch of scoring, added another run to take a 6-0 advantage.
In the fifth, Emporia State had their first two retired, but
Logan Myers lifted his fifth home run to put the Hornets on the board.
However, over the next three innings, Pittsburg State continued to add to their total, heading to the seventh with a 9-1 lead, and the Gorillas capped the game with two runs to take the 11-1 win.
A LOOK AT THE STATS
Emporia State managed just two hits and three walks on the afternoon. The Hornets used five pitchers in the game, with
Nick Woodcock going the longest with 3.2 innings which included three strikeouts.

The NCAA Selection Show will be on Sunday, May 10 as the Hornets will see if they qualify for the NCAA Central Regional next weekend.
