April 8, 2026-After leading Emporia State to a Top 25 team win on Monday, the Hornets'
Mostafa Elbasnaly has been named the MIAA/GAC North Division Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, presented by ClassicCourt – the official tennis surface of the MIAA.
Elbasnaly led Emporia State to a 6-1 win over then #21 Neb.-Kearney with a 6-4, 6-3 win over then #75 Andy Brisdon at #1 singles. The Hornets swept all six singles matches after falling all three doubles contests, including a 6-3 loss at #2 by Elbasnaly and
Diego Calvo at #2 doubles. The dual win was Emporia State's first over a nationally ranked opponent since defeating then #31 Rockhurst 6-1 on March 8, 2025 at the Kossover Complex. It is their highest ranked win since beating then #19 Lubbock Christian 4-3 on March 12, 2024 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The Hornets are scheduled to be back in action this week against #13 Washburn on Friday, April 10. First serve of the men's tennis edition of the Turnpike Tussle is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Kossover Family Tennis Complex.
